In Linen And Lamplight: The Secret Lives Of Slavic Needlework
Thursday April 9, 2026 3:30pm - 5:30pm PDT
Behind the embroidered rushnyky that grace kitchen tables and the geometric patterns that edge bedroom linens lies a visual language as rich as any written script. Across the Slavic lands—the vast territories spanning from Russia and Ukraine to Poland, Czech Republic, and the Balkans—women have stitched meaning into fabric, creating what appears to be simple household decoration but carries layers of cultural knowledge. We will embroider a travel pouch and work with personal symbolism.

Learn Tatting and Make Earrings! - Session 1
Thursday April 9, 2026 3:30pm - 5:30pm PDT
Tatting is a very interesting lace-making technique using a simple shuttle and crochet thread. In this workshop, I'll teach you the basics and then guide you through making your own pair of delicate lace, tatted earrings!

You'll learn the basic tatting stitch, how to create picots, join rings, and tips on loading, holding, and using the shuttle. Then, you'll make a pair of earrings, choosing from a few simple designs that will allow you to practice your newly learned skills!

I'll have lots of examples of tatting - some old and some modern - that will inspire you and show you the possibilities with tatting. There's a whole world of lace making that you can discover by starting with this class.

No previous experience needed. Tatting is truly a hands-on craft, with one hand continuously holding and adjusting the tension for each ring, while the other hand is guiding the shuttle and thread. It does take some finger dexterity and coordination (a bit like knitting), but once you get the hang of it, it’s seriously addictive!

If you use reading glasses, please bring them along.

Learn Tatting and Make Earrings! - Session 2
Friday April 10, 2026 9:00am - 11:00am PDT

Pixels To Petals: How Ancient Symbols Travel Through Time And Technology
Friday April 10, 2026 9:00am - 11:00am PDT
In glowing screens, pixels arrange into roses through simple repetition—the same principle medieval embroiderers knew when building flowers stitch by stitch. Yet long before pixels existed, artisans knew this truth: complex beauty emerges from simple repetition. From ancient sacred geometry to Soviet textiles, archetypal symbols travel across cultures and technologies, carrying spiritual meaning through the language of beauty. This workshop we explore a cross stitch technique of roses based on Slavic patterns. https://www.folklounge.com/news/talk-for-the-wende-pixels-to-petals-how-ancient-symbols-travel-through-time-and-technology

The Polish Party: Design Your Own Press-On Nail Set - Session 2
Saturday April 11, 2026 9:00am - 11:00am PDT
The Polish Party is a guided, beginner-friendly nail art workshop where participants design their own custom press-on nail sets using gel polish and trending techniques like chrome powder, cat eye effects, and blooming gel. This hands-on session blends personal expression with tactile play, offering a fresh, creative experience that bridges beauty and craft.

Participants will be guided step-by-step through the process of creating their own press-on sets. The workshop begins with a demo and hands-on practice of gel nail art techniques, followed by open time for attendees to experiment and bring their ideas to life using curated materials. Each person receives a fully equipped personal nail station with 10 press-on nails in their preferred shape and length, a UV nail lamp, and the tools needed to complete their set. Students share a variety of gel polish colors and decorative materials, including charms, rhinestones, and stickers.

The session wraps with a relaxed 10–15 minute “gallery walk,” encouraging participants to share designs, spark conversation, and celebrate each maker’s unique style. Everyone leaves with a ready-to-wear press-on kit, including glue, adhesive tabs, a file, buffer, cuticle pusher, and alcohol pad, as well as new creative skills they can continue to build on.

This workshop is intentionally designed to be beginner-friendly and welcomes people of all genders. It provides a low-pressure, joy-forward environment where attendees of all backgrounds can connect, create, and take something beautiful, handmade, *and* wearable home with them. The Polish Party aligns with Craftcation’s mission of fostering accessible skill-building, community care, and creative exploration.

Knit Happens - How to fix it when it does
Sunday April 12, 2026 11:30am - 1:30pm PDT
“Knit happens”!
- How to fix it when it does

Mistakes are a part of the process- let’s make them part of the magic. In this hands-on class, we’ll cover common oopsies…you’ll learn how to tink, pick up dropped stitches, untwist the twisties, and more. We’ll even explore hacks for counting rows, fixing color work, creating lifelines (for your own sanity!) and talk about ripping without ruining your work.

After this workshop you can say, “Knit happens!” Now you know what to do.
